A missing authorization vulnerability affects the RegistrationMagic plugin for WordPress, versions up to and including 6.0.9.4. The plugin fails to implement a proper capability check on a specific function, enabling unauthenticated attackers to perform unauthorized actions. This vulnerability has a CVSS score of 5.3 and is categorized under CWE-862.

The root cause lies in the `class_rm_form_controller.php` file in the admin controllers directory. The vulnerable function lacks a permission verification callback, such as `current_user_can()`, which WordPress typically uses to restrict administrative functions. This allows any user, including unauthenticated visitors, to trigger the function. The lack of a capability check means the authorization mechanism is entirely absent, leaving the function exposed to direct invocation.

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request directly to the vulnerable endpoint. Since the function is part of the admin controller, the attacker must know the correct `rm_form_id` parameter to target. The request does not require any authentication or nonce, allowing an unauthenticated user to interact with administrative form management features, potentially modifying form settings or accessing sensitive data.

The patch introduces an authorization check in the affected function within `class_rm_form_controller.php`. This check ensures that only users with the appropriate capabilities can execute the function. The patch also refactors the sort-by parameter handling, validating it against an allowed list to prevent SQL injection. Another change modifies the database update function to use a prepared statement, mitigating SQL injection risks in certain operations.
