CVE-2026-65508: Simply Schedule Appointments <= 1.6.12.10 Unauthenticated SQL Injection PoC, Patch Analysis & Rule

Severity High (CVSS 7.5)
CWE 89
Vulnerable Version 1.6.12.10
Patched Version 1.6.12.11
Disclosed July 27, 2026

Analysis Overview

Atomic Edge analysis of CVE-2026-65508: The Simply Schedule Appointments plugin for WordPress, versions up to and including 1.6.12.10, contains an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability. This flaw allows attackers to extract sensitive information from the database by manipulating a specific parameter in an existing SQL query.

The root cause of the vulnerability lies in the handling of the ‘append_where_sql’ parameter in REST API requests. The ‘class-rest-middleware.php’ file contained a route check that only stripped this internal-only parameter from requests where the route began with ‘/ssa/’. This check was insufficient because WordPress matches REST API routes case-insensitively. An attacker could bypass this check by requesting a route like ‘/SSA/…’, allowing the ‘forbidden’ parameter to pass through to the controller. The controller in ‘class-appointment-model.php’ would then concatenate the value of this parameter directly into the SQL query without proper escaping or preparation, leading to SQL injection.

An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted POST request to a REST API endpoint that uses a mixed-case path, for example, ‘/wp-json/SSA/v1/appointments’. The request would include the ‘append_where_sql’ parameter in the POST body with a malicious SQL payload, such as a UNION SELECT statement. The middleware would fail to strip the parameter due to the case-insensitive route bypass, and the application would execute the attacker-controlled SQL, allowing for data exfiltration.

The patch removes the case-sensitive route check in ‘class-rest-middleware.php’, ensuring that the ‘append_where_sql’ parameter is stripped from all incoming REST requests, regardless of the route. This change makes the bypass class unreachable and prevents the SQL injection by ensuring the dangerous parameter never reaches the query-building logic.

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to read sensitive data from the WordPress database. This can include usernames, password hashes, email addresses, and other personally identifiable information, leading to a critical data breach and potential account takeover.
